History of Glass Christmas Ornaments

Glass Christmas decorations are not a traditional part of our Christmas so long as it might seem. Previously, the Christmas trees were decorated with fruits, dried fruits, sweets and decorations made ​​of wood, paper and straw.

Blown glass decorations as we know, come around the middle of the 19th century in Germany. The center of production is the Thuringian village Lauscha from the seventies of the 19th century. In the mid 19th century in the Czech glassworks also begin to produce first blown decorations, when production in the eastern and northern Bohemia thereafter becomes very rapidly in importance.

While in 1931 were Christmas decorations still imported into Czechoslovakia, in 1933 has already been directed abroad and export rose steadily. A large part of export was directed to the USA. In 1937, Czechoslovakia was already in the field of blown Christmas decorations major manufacturer and exporter worldwide. Currently, the production in the Czech Republic because of significant competition, especially from Asian countries greatly reduced.
